Area 20 November Monthly Update

Area 20 November Monthly Update

As we approach the busy part of the year with all the holidays, I just want to slow down time.  Not only is this time of year drowned with Holidays, but almost every immediate-to-extended family members birthdays are between October and February as well.  I really feel like there’s not enough time in the day to accomplish anything.

And this is the time of year that I really start to feel like my quiet time is put by the wayside.  In reality, this is the time of the year I need to step aside and take time for Jesus and his word everyday so that I don’t get completely wrapped up in the craziness of all the festivities.  It’s the time of year that we need to slow down and remember whom, what and why we are thankful.  It’s the time of year to remember that God has a plan, even if it’s not in our timing; to remember that he already knows our path before we even get there and that he will guide and carry us through the good and the bad times.

Tony Evans states -- “God says to give thanks in everything. That doesn’t mean you need to give thanks FOR everything. You don’t need to give thanks FOR that bad day. Or FOR that bad relationship. Or being passed over at work. Financial hardship. Whatever it is – you are not to give thanks FOR the difficulties, but rather IN the difficulties. That is a very important distinction, and one I think we often miss. Giving thanks IN everything shows a heart of faith that God is bigger than the difficulties and that He can use them, if you approach Him with the right heart and spirit, for your good and His glory.”

I hope that through these upcoming months that you slow down a little and don’t forget why we celebrate these Holidays and give thanks for everything in life.

Join us on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 7 – 9 pm for what promises to be an encouraging night for moms!

The First Presbyterian Church of Pooler GA and
Pooler MOPS will be co-hosting this free event that is open to any woman who would be interested.

Ginger Hubbbard will be speaking on "Reaching the Heart of Your Child" based on the content of Ginger's best-selling book, "Don't Make Me Count to Three!"

Do you find yourself threatening, repeating your instructions, or raising your voice in an attempt to get your children to obey? Are you discouraged because it seems you just can't reach the heart of your child?

Through personal experience and the practical application of Scripture, Ginger encourages and equips moms to reach past the outward behavior of their children and dive deeply into the issues of the heart. Ginger's candid approach will help moms move beyond the frustrations of not knowing how to handle issues of disobedience and into a confident and well-balanced approach to raising their children.

There is no cost to attend but a love offering will be taken up at the event. To register for the event, click this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1920524458195376/

MOPS Area 20 Leaders Facebook Page

Did you know we have a MOPS Area 20 Leaders Facebook page?

This page is open to all registered Area 20 MOPS Leaders. MOPS International encourages and equips moms of young children to realize their potential as mothers, women and leaders, in relationship with Jesus, and in partnership with the local church. Area 20 MOPS Leaders Facebook page is a place to ask questions about MOPS International events, get ideas for meetings and encourage one another. Your MOPS Volunteer Team Coaches check the page daily. We have been posting a Prayer & Praise request each Tuesday. If you ever have a prayer request, you may share it in that post. Our Coaches will pray specifically for your requests.

We are also facilitating group discussions for a week each month. In October Connect, we asked leaders’ questions to prompt discussion. For November, we are going to focus on our Free, Indeed theme’s three tenets of freedoms: Let Love Be the Loudest Voice (Proclaim Favor), Be Gutsy (Proclaim Release) & Go First (Set Free). Be sure to comment on the posts and your name will be entered for a random drawing. Join your Area 20 leaders and find & share ideas. Area 20 Needs YOU!

MOPS Coaches are the vibrant tribe of women making an authentic difference in the lives of MOPS moms and leaders. Our Coaches are a passionate bunch. They’re the relationship builders and the team strengtheners. The mom enthusiasts and the leader advocates. They’re the avid listeners and expert encouragers, the community cultivators and world influencers.
MOPS Coaches are difference makers.
Every MOPS Coach has one simple task in common: Showing up.
Showing up takes many forms and everyone’s experience will be unique. As a MOPS Coach you will
·         Directly impact local groups by building relationships with group Leaders and guiding the group experience
·         Nurture Leaders by sharing training, advice, resources and prayer – playing a large role in helping Leaders grow to their full potential
·         Connect group Leaders to each other and to MOPS International – share with local groups all the exciting things happening with MOPS and cultivate friendships among fellow Leaders
·         Help MOPS develop resources for Leader events and training – after all, being on the frontline makes you most aware of Leaders’ needs
·         Grow professionally as leaders and personally as women of influence. We want nothing more than for our Coaches to thrive.
We believe you are meant to be here. We believe that sometimes, the best opportunities require a leap of faith, a step into the unknown, and a reliance on the women around you – the women who are welcoming you with open arms into the sisterhood of MOPS Coaches.
Your Coaches pray daily for our MOPS groups & you, our Leaders. We also pray that those who are called to join us will answer that call. If you are ready to take the next step in leadership, please contact your Coach or send our Area Coach, Christy Molnar, christymolnar@yahoo.com an email today.

M | Collectives & M | Meetups
MOPS International is launching two new meeting formats! Just like the classic MOPS groups, both of these gatherings welcome every mom, invite them into lifelong friendships and talk about the things that matter most. Learn more at mops.org/start-a-group.

M | Collectives
Collectives are short, topic-based gatherings. Collectives typically meet once a week for six to eight sessions to work through a small-but-mighty workbook that focuses on growth and discovery within a single topic.
Topics could include postpartum depression, marriage and intimacy, raising boys and girls, healthy sleep habits and others, with new topics added continually. Each mom will simply need her own workbook to work through each week.
All you’ll need: Your Facilitator workbook + two or more moms + a place to gather.

M | Meetups coming in 2018!
Meetups are ongoing, once-a-month gatherings centered on the shared wisdom and conversation of the women next to you. We have learned that with a little guidance, a casual monthly Meetup can create some of the most life-giving moments; the kind that breathe life into your year. Each month, both the Facilitator and each Member will receive monthly musings – digital content to help guide the conversation and set the stage for an extraordinary Meetup experience. The best part about Meetups is that they only require that you show up. Each mom will simply need her membership for access to these resources.
Members receive weekly, digital content that invites them to be intentional in their motherhood and faith journey, thought life and love life, and is sure to transform their year in extraordinary ways!

MOPS and Chuck E. Cheese
MOPS and Chuck E. Cheese’s are collaborating to create something new. Chuck E. Cheese’s locations across the nation are opening their doors to MOPS groups in fresh and innovative ways to connect with new moms. We’re talking no hassle play dates with entertainment and food (check out their healthy, gluten-free meal options), outreach events that connect you with moms who are in your neighborhood but are outside of the church, and even the option for an ongoing MOPS group that meets without the challenge of having to secure child care. Chuck E. Cheese’s isn’t just for kids anymore; it’s for MOPS moms, too. Because, together, we are not only inviting moms into our community, we are showing up in theirs.
Call 888.910.MOPS or email chuckecheese@mops.org to find out more!

Prayers and Praises

Leaders, if you have a prayer or praise that you would like us to share with Area 20 Leaders, please send to your Coach or post on our Facebook page.

10/10 - Carrie Smith -  We have a mom who had a benign tumor removed from her spine. She is currently in the Shepherd Center recovering and learning how to control her body. She is new to our group and hasn’t attended a meeting yet.

Pray for Rachel and her family at this time. Her husband started a new job just before her surgery and he is balancing job and kids and care. At this time the family is not receptive to any help we have offered (food, child care, transportation). We don’t want to burden them in our attempts to help. My heart hurts for them as I can only imagine the stress they are under. I only wish to lighten their load.

10/10 - Lori LaFargue Ward - Praise, after two miscarriages and a few complications throughout pregnancy, I gave birth to a beautiful & healthy baby girl on oct 3rd!

10/10 - Wendy Ilderton - Pray for Gods hand to be seen in what His will is for Luke's schooling. We are struggling with keeping him where he is, homeschooling, or private school. Luke has Aspergers and is having some issues come up this year. We are not sure that the schools solution is what's best for Luke.

10/12 - Andrea HarrisI had an emergency appendectomy this past Saturday.

10/12 - Amanda StorieUnity for our steering team

10/14 - Katie Bennett ReaginMy cousin gave birth to a baby this week that they knew would not live long due to some major issues with her internal organs. She lived three days and passed away last night in her mommy's arms at home.

10/15 - Meghan JorgensenFriday I had the privilege to speak to a mops group in Michigan, sharing our story of losing our twins two years ago. One woman pulled me aside afterwards and tearfully told me that she had an ultrasound on Thursday showing twins that were not viable (she's 10 weeks). My heart aches for her.

Pray for our Area 20 MOPS Volunteer Team (MVT) as we strive to encourage and equip the leaders in our communities and hope that more MOPS Leaders will answer God’s call to be a part of our team.

Area 20 October 2017 Monthly Update

Area 20 October Monthly Update

We’ve been home from MOMCon for one week.  Reentry has been hard.  I was immediately thrust into the world of work, schedules and my husband traveling.  I just unpacked my suitcase today.  What a stark change from our time at MOMCon!   We had an amazing time with our MOPS sisters!  For anyone that was unable to come this year, please pray about coming next year.  It is an amazing time of renewal.
If you have never been before, MOMCon helps you see the big picture of MOPS.  You get to hear from the hearts of MOPS leadership and see their love for women and their goal to share Jesus with one million moms.  We even saw women from MOPS global who traveled from other countries to unite in sisterhood to be trained and renewed.  We had great gatherings, meet-ups and workshops.
Also, those of us that are Coaches had an amazing inspirational speaker who talked to us about self-care.  MOPS Leaders needs to make sure they don’t get burned out and one way to do this is by taking care of themselves.  Sometimes this may look like getting a sitter to go to lunch with a friend or taking a nap when your baby naps.  Other times it may be that we need to spend time with our Father in reflection and prayer.  In Isaiah 40:31 it says,

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

We can be better moms and better MOPS leaders when we are refreshed and renewed.  We love you MOPS mamas!  As you are taking care of your kids and preparing for your MOPS meetings, take some for yourself and take some time with our Lord.  Know that we are praying for you as you lead your groups!

Love,
Ashley Barnes

Prayers and Praises

Leaders, if you have a prayer or praise that you would like us to share with Area 20 Leaders, please send to your Coach or post on our Facebook page.

Nicole Gebhardt – Please pray for all affected by the hurricanes, and any upcoming ones.  Please also pray for the service members (my hubby is Air Force and about to leave again for PR) that leave their family to protect and save others…and their spouses that stay back to hold down the homefront.

Katie Reagin – My cousin is so nearby KC, and she is due with her 4th baby in October, who unfortunately will likely not live.  Pray for grace, for peace, for comfort and for anything else that they will so desperately need.  Her name is Stephanie, Dad is Adam and baby is Marion Ohana.

Evelyn Rivas – Please pray that leaders will receive the wisdom that they need for their groups during this MOMCon and that the leaders in their groups will rise and be on one accord to reach these 1 million moms.

Kelly Mullins-Anxiety over leaving my children with their grandfather for one week…my little guy has been vomiting for 5 days now.

Holly Davis – Prayers for those in FL, GA and TX without power and/or damage to their homes.

Nikki Young – Prayers for our group.  I’m the coordinator and my husband just got promoted and that will move us from MS to PA.  They’re wonderful women who can handle it but I’m sad to leave them in the middle of the year to scramble and cover.

Leighann Almas – We are having our first MOPS gathering tomorrow.  I would like prayers for being able to reach out and help support these women when I myself am struggling.

Lauren Barthle – My twin sister just had her second miscarriage in under 6 months.  My heart is grieving for her.  She has a DNC scheduled for tomorrow and I wish I could be there with her.  We have our first meeting tomorrow so I’m trying to get collected.  This hurricane situation isn’t helping either.

Katie Reagin – My grandmother has been hospitalized since early August.  Gratefully, she become well enough to be transferred out of the ICU and into another care facility to care for her, but she lives out of state from me and I feel so helpless for the rest of my family. Another friend has also been struggling with her health and has been in the hospital since last Friday. And I’m over here, uber-focused on our group, our growth, and my own family’s needs simultaneously. You know, run-of-mill for us leaders.

Bree Lawrence – My 12-year-old son’s best friend started having seizures over the summer, they stopped for awhile, and now they have started again. Connor his having to miss a lot of school for doctor visits, tests, and because of the seizures. Pray for healing and for his doctors to find a way that Connor’s seizures can be managed.

Angela Marshall – Pray for the Marshall family as they mourn the passing of her husband, Mike’s, father.

Prayers for moms adjusting to life with a newborn, dealing with children’s illnesses, and needing a friend.

Prayers for Leadership Teams starting their MOPS year and working to help MOPS International reach 1 million moms.

Pray for our Area 20 MOPS Volunteer Team (MVT) as we strive to encourage and equip the leaders in our communities and hope that more MOPS Leaders will answer God’s call to be a part of our team.

Area 20 September 2017 Monthly Update

Area 20 September Monthly Update

Hello Wonderful Women!

Have you ever walked into a room for a specific reason, but saw a mess & stopped to pick it up, then found that item you were looking for two days ago, and been completely diverted from the reason you walked into the room to the point that 10-15 minutes later, you leave the room and don’t realize for another 10-15 minutes that you didn’t actually do or get what you originally intended? It can be so frustrating!

Distractions abound in our lives starting with our phones, the Internet, always being “plugged in”, all that parenting involves with our children, our commitments and countless other things. It can be difficult to focus on the task right in front of us. Have you found yourself constantly multitasking no matter what you are trying to accomplish? (side note: I don’t even want to admit how long it took me to type this thought, how many times I stopped to do something else, or how many times I had to remind myself that I didn’t finish yet!)

That’s why I LOVE our theme “Free Indeed”! In the theme summary, it states Choosing freedom is a deeply spiritual act, one that our souls long for. That is why this year, we choose wild, unexpected freedom; the kind that brings more laughter and less worry, more contentment and less hustle. Freedom that is so contagious, the people around us are compelled toward their own liberation.”

Choosing freedom can sometimes mean that I should slow down a little, limit my Internet and phone usage, be intentional about completing my tasks and learning to say no to things I don’t have time to do. I want to embrace more laughter and less worry, more contentment and less hustle. In order to help me do this I am going to remind myself to

Let Love Be the Loudest Voice “We will bask in the freedom of living loved by understanding who God is, and who we are because of it. We will be free from the need to hustle for our worth, and we will live in the truth that we are already loved and loveable, without all the striving.

Be Gutsy “Being gutsy is about realizing that you get to decide how busy you are, what you say yes to, what is best for your family and what you make a priority in your mothering. If you need to slow down your life – you can do that. If you feel like you don’t have any friends – go out and make some.

and Go First  “In fact, one of the best ways to advocate for others’ freedom is to go first ourselves, and then we can share with courage and honesty because we have found the keys of freedom. We will go first so that we can set other captives free.

Won’t you join me?

Better moms make a better world,

Already have your webpage set up?
Now is a great time to check your url. Does it say, "
www.mops.org/groups/<yourgroupname>" ?
If not, moms will get a "page not found" screen.
Need help? contact your coach to walk you through the process: leaders.mops.org/coach-connect
